The House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement has assured the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON) of its support as the institute intensifies efforts to strengthen its regulatory capacity and reposition the Chemistry profession.
This was as the Institute sustained its engagement with the National Assembly as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its regulatory capacity, and enhance the visibility and impact of the Chemistry profession in Nigeria.
The Acting Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of ICCON, Akwaowo I. Reuben, on Monday paid a follow-up courtesy visit to the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement, Rt. Hon. Unyime Josiah Idem, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
During the visit, the Acting Registrar/CEO formally briefed the Honourable Chairman on the receipt of his appointment letter from the Office of the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako.
Receiving him, Rt. Hon. Idem congratulated Reuben on his appointment and assured the Institute of the Committee’s total support in enabling it to fulfil its statutory mandate.
The chairman further admonished the Acting Registrar/CEO to discharge his duties with integrity and transparency. He urged him to keep clean records and ensure the protection of Government interest at all times. He also called on ICCON staff to accord the Acting Registrar/CEO maximum cooperation, stressing that collective commitment and teamwork are critical to repositioning the Institute as a strong, vibrant, and effective regulatory body.
Rt. Hon. Idem further reaffirmed his readiness to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the Institute’s institutional capacity, professionalism, regulatory effectiveness, and collaboration with relevant government stakeholders.
In his response, the Acting Registrar/CEO expressed appreciation for the Chairman’s continued support and goodwill towards ICCON. He reiterated Management’s commitment to reposition the Institute, uphold transparency and accountability, deepen professionalism in Chemistry practice, and expand collaboration with strategic stakeholders.
This engagement builds on an earlier courtesy visit during which both leaders discussed areas of mutual interest including institutional development, regulatory effectiveness, and strategic partnerships.
The visits form part of ICCON’s broader stakeholder engagement strategy aimed at strengthening collaboration with the National Assembly, MDAs, industry, and other relevant stakeholders for the effective implementation of its statutory mandate.
The Institute views the sustained support from the National Assembly as vital to building a responsive, professionally-driven, and globally respected regulatory institution that contributes meaningfully to public health, environmental protection, industrial development, and national economic growth through effective regulation of Chemistry practice in Nigeria.
