In a gesture aimed at supporting public safety infrastructure and enhancing the visibility of law enforcement presence, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Gateway, has commissioned a series of renovation and donation projects at the Mile 1 Police Station in Rivers State.
The initiative, which marks the club’s first project of the 2025/2026 Rotary year titled; “Unite for Good/Promax Year”, included the unveiling of a rebranded police station signboard, repainting of the police building logo, and presentation of branded waste bins and sanitation tools to the police barracks.
The club’s president, Rotarian Ben Emeruwa, said the project was borne out of the need to support the police in maintaining their environment while ensuring the station is easily identifiable to residents and visitors.
“The project was necessitated by the need to maintain the police force’s buildings and the faded police signboard, which is necessary to aid people not conversant with the Mile 1 area to easily notice that there is a police presence there,” Emeruwa stated during the commissioning ceremony.
The Mile 1 rebranding project aligns with Rotary’s global focus on community development and support for public institutions. Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Gateway says it plans to execute more high-impact projects throughout the Rotary year.
“We are committed to creating visible, sustainable impact across public facilities in our community, especially those that play key roles in safety and social order,” Emeruwa added.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Mile 1 Divisional Headquarters, Francis Ogbechie, received the donated items on behalf of the command. The tools branded waste bins, brooms, and rakes are intended to support regular sanitation within the police compound and barracks.
Also in attendance was Assistant Governor of Rotary Zone 27, Rtn Victor Awowade (Otunba), who joined club members to formally present the projects.
The club said further initiatives are expected in education, health, and youth development across Port Harcourt and beyond.
