The Rivers State Chapter of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, marked this year’s Children’s day celebration with students of Police Comprehensive College and 20 other secondary schools in Port Harcourt.
During the celebration at the premises of Police Comprehensive College, the children were urged to stay away from crime”embrace education, it is the key to success. Say no to crime, illicit drugs and cultism”.
Chairman of PCRC in Rivers state, Voke Emore in his speech said “Today we are celebrating the children in our way. PCRC in a special way decided to celebrate the children in the Police Comprehensive School. As you can notice, we don’t have only the Police Comprehensive school here present, we have other schools, Government and private schools inclusive.
“We have twenty participating schools including the Police Comprehensive school in this programme.”
Emore said, “Artificial lntelligence, Al, is the next big thing in the world and we want the children of this generation to be pioneers of Al in Nigeria. Nigeria has to move with the world. The children has to know the foundation of Al and if they want to advance, they can also advance.
“We talked about those that want to participate in other careers.We have a Pilot from Bristol helicopter here representing the company that did some career talk.
“We also have nollywood practitioner, the convener of Rivers State International Film Festival, Kate EzeIgbo here to share some knowledge with the children. There was a small drama too to motivate the children in whatever career path they choose.
“We also told them to say no to drugs and other vices that can cause problem to them as children.We also got good feedback”.
Commandant of the Police Comprehensive College, CSP Rosemary Babatunde in her welcome address said, “We have come to teach and mentor our children.We have come to let them know that there are certain things they need to do,to be successful in life.
“Here, Knowledge is achieved through discipline. I urge you to learn and pick something that will better and benefit you tomorrow”.
Ambassador Bosinde Araikpe, a security said “as a child, you are privileged to be part of an organization called Police college. This is where you get discipline of a Police officer. You are ambassador of Nigeria Police”.
Mr Okechukwu Onuchukwu, a pilot with Bristol helicopter urged the children to watch out for profession that pays very well as they are growing.
“It starts by first, reading hard.Dont get into crime. You have to pay attention to all the classes. Do your best. Find out what to do, to improve yourself. If you want to consider a career, consider being a pilot. Be respectful to your parents, teachers and authority” Mr Onuchukwu said.
Mr Igwe Nnamdi who introduced the students to Al stated that the tech is changing how the person study and work.
A movie producer, Kate Ezeigbo in her speech said “all you need to succeed is the right mind set. Who are you listening to, who are you talking to. Growing up, their are people you must learn from.Failing is not the problem,the ability to stand up. If you can only listen to you teacher and parents, you will get it right.
“You need a lot of discipline to succeed.You need a positive mind set of I can do all things. Nothing is impossible”
Earlier, the student representative of Police Comprehensive College took first position in spelling competition while CSS Nkpolu took second position and CSS Mgbuosimini took third position.
Schools present at the event include; GSSC Elekahia, CSS Nkpolu, CSS Mgbuoshimini, CSS Rumupeirikom, CSS Rumuomasi, CSS Orowurokwo, CSS Orogbum, GGSS Oromenieke, GGSS Rumueme, Government Comprehensive Secondary Borikiri, Entiona High School Borikiri, Pabod Model School, CSS Amadi-Ama, CSS Oginiba, Hillspring School, Government Craft Development Centre among others.
