IAUE: Stakeholders Thumbs Up Onuchuku Over Speedy Development

The acting Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE ) Port Harcourt, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, has continued to receive thumbs up from stakeholders in the University community over the rapid transformation of the school into a better place for academic exercise.

Some of the stakeholders like Chief Geoffrey Amadi, who spoke with newsmen last weekend in Port Harcourt, said the school under Onuchuku is now making waves in the academic community with his impressive leadership and vision.

Amadi who is a graduate the university, recalled that since the acting Vice Chancellor took over office in November 2021, he has implemented several initiatives aimed at improving the university’s academic standards and overall quality of life for students.

“Under Professor Onuchuku’s leadership, IAUE has continued to offer a wide range of academic programs across seven faculties, including Agriculture, Education, Humanities, Management Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, and Vocational and Technical Education”, he said.

Another respondent , a top Military Officer, Moses Diche, noted that the university has also maintained its accreditation status with the National Universities Commission (NUC), ensuring that its programmes meet the required standards.

Diche revealed how students at IAUE enjoy robust avalanche of infrastructural development and other facilities, which according to him, is not common among African and some foreign Universities .

He pointed out how the news of the provision of a kitchen space for the students in the University erupted joy in his mind when both the economic importance of such rear acts were considered irrespective of any sentiment some people may attach to it.

“The university has a conducive learning environment, and the lecturers are approachable and knowledgeable,” he said.

A post-graduate student of the university, who gave his name only as Geo, linked part of the success story of the university under Onuchuku to its continuous emphasis on practical skills and entrepreneurship teaching .

He said it has been helpful and developed the needed skills for the job market survival.

Geo who hinted that he graduated from the school about 30 years ago, marvelled that Onuchuku has prioritized research and development thus , encouraging faculty members to engage in innovative research projects.

“The university’s research centers and institutions provide a platform for students and staff to explore new ideas and solutions. IAUE’s research focus areas include education, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, aligning with the university’s mission to produce graduates who can contribute to national development”, he said.

Others also called on international donors and companies like to as a matter of urgency seek partnership deal with the institution in order to keep the fire burning.
