Igali Pledges Support for Bayelsa SWAN Week

The Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports Development has endorsed and pledged support for the Bayelsa 2024 SWAN Week which will see media organizations in the state compete in sporting activities.

State Commissioner for Sports, Hon Daniel Igali made the commitment when the Local Organizing and Planning Committee of the SWAN Week paid him a courtesy visit in his office, Yenagoa on Thursday.

Igali said Sports writers are critical personnel in the sporting industry, eulogizing the important role they play in the dissemination of sports stories

“I want to thank you for this visit and I’ve always told you the importance of Sports writers to sports as an entity and I’m glad we have a very close working relationship, collaborative in nature and you’ve never let us down.

“So we want to acknowledge your visit and to tell you that we would be there to support and partner. So on behalf of the Ministry I want to assure you that you have 100% collaboration from the Ministry of Sports Development, Bayelsa State.”

Earlier, the chairman Local Organizing and Planning Committee, Elder Loveday Herbert intimated the commissioner some of the activities lined up to mark this year’s SWAN Week which include a 6-kilometre Road Race, football competition christened Clinton Thompson Cup among media houses in Bayelsa State, indoor games such as table tennis, scrabble and chess, a capacity building workshop/training for members and a SWAN Award Night.

He added that the week-long week will run from December 7th to 13th 2024 across different venues.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Mrs Grace Alagoa alongside the Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi and the Ministry Human Resource Management.
