Hunger: Ex-Agitators Undecided over Joining Nationwide Protest

The leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Programme Phase 3 has declared that they have not decided as to whether to engage in the forthcoming National Protest scheduled to start on August 1, 2024 or not.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Elaye Slaboh, National Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Program, Third Phase.

According to the statement ,”Protest is a guaranteed right of citizens in every democratic society incorporated both in our domestic laws and international human rights instruments. From the lens of history, we are fully aware of the foreseeable outcomes and probable results of protests of this nature which has the youths at the fore and which is founded on the basis of economic hardship, inflation, harsh economic policies, over-taxation, starvation, unemployment, insecurity, and essentially bad governance and unbearable living”

The statement further adds “As Ex-Militants, we understand our role in promoting National Security, hence, we are having an ongoing consultations with the Elders and Stakeholders of the Niger Delta region on whether to engage the protest or not. To this end, we urge all the Ex-agitators under the Presidential Amnesty Programme Third Phase to remain calm and resolute, maintaining peace and order while our consultation continues”

He said their resolution shall be made known to the public within the next 48 hours whether they shall engage the protest or not. While they hope and pray for the peace of the country , just as he urged everyone to stay safe.
