The governor of Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has been commended for paying the over 300 local government workers sacked by chairmen of Emohua and Ahoada West local government areas.
In a release made available to our correspondent, chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations (RIVCSO), Comr. Enefaa Georgewill said the organisation commends the governor for paying the council workers who it said were illegally sacked by the chairmen of Emohua and Ahoada West local government areas.
Georgewill said, “As we are all aware, the responsibility to employ, sack, promote and punish LGA workers resides with the Local Government Civil Service Commission and not the local government chairman.
“As the foremost civil society coalition in the state that is quick to condemn actions of government, we have deemed it necessary to commend the governor for listening to the voice of reason by paying these LGA workers who have been owed for over two years.
“Well done, Your Excellency. We pray your government continues in this step in other sectors in the state like fire service, agriculture, IT, etc that need your urgent attention,” he said.
