The Bayelsa State Police Command said it is committed to ensuring a peaceful celebration of Christmas and New Year in the state.

According to the PPRO Butswat Asinim, the command has beefed up security with increased vehicular and foot patrols as well as intensive surveillance in nooks and crannies of the state.

“The command hereby solicits for support and cooperation of members of the public to ensure a hitch free yuletide season. Parents and guardians are advised to warn their wards to desist from the use of any fireworks during and after the yuletide. Any person found violating the ban would be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

Also, the command said it has “observed with dismay the influx of heavily tinted glass vehicles, vehicles with covered plate numbers and unregistered vehicles in Yenagoa metropolis.

“The command has set-up a task force headed by assistant commissioner of Police, Department of Operations to arrest owners of unauthorized tinted glass vehicles, vehicles with covered plate numbers, unregistered vehicles and impound the vehicles for possible prosecution.

“Owners of unauthorized tinted glass vehicles, unregistered vehicles and vehicles with covered plate numbers are advised to comply with the extant laws to avoid arrest and prosecution,” it said.
