The handing over ceremony, which took place at the Port Conference Room in the Administrative Building, Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT) Onne recently, had the heads of department in attendance.

Stakeholders who spoke with our correspondent applauded the acting managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko on the appointment.

Yitnoe who grew from the ranks at the NPA was the technical assistant to the managing director on Marine and Operations.

The outgoing port manager, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, in his speech, described Onne Port as a family port and assured his successor of the cooperation of all the departments, while expressing gratitude to the workforce for the way they had supported him during his stay as port manager.

He commended the port’s contributions in terms of revenue to the Federal Government with about 35% growth in container traffic, while lauding the Onne Port staff for their contributions to maintaining the port’s position as one of the biggest revenue generation ports in Nigeria.

“Revenue generation to government from Onne Port is heavy.  I am sure that Onne Port will continue to shine even with the incoming port manager,” Dr. Dantsoho said.

He noted that part of the reason for this is on account of oil vessels and cargo berthing at the port, including container cargo and NLNG operations at Bonny.

The outgoing port manager appealed to his successor to continue to interface with stakeholders, in order to find amicable resolution to issues, so as to improve the usual co-operations among organizations.

Responding, the incoming port manager, Mr. Stanley Yitnoe, applauded his immediate predecessor and the HODs, as he acknowledged the status of Onne Port as a leader in cargo throughput and a cash cow for the authority.

He said that as employees of NPA, “we all are privileged to be part of the organization at this present period,” as he urged all to put in their best to ensure NPA achieves her set goals, especially in revenue generation.

Yitnoe noted that though “revenue generation should be a feat to be proud of, we should be mindful that these are critical times for the authority and industry and by extension, the nation, because we are the veritable gateway to the nation’s economy.”

He stated that Onne Port Complex is basically “a landlord port with some responsibility for marine services, and that our major residual functions are therefore monitoring and regulatory services,” noting that perform their functions successfully, “all must be on top of the game as a team.  We must be diligent and consistent in record keeping.”

Yitnoe also noted that “it is on the basis of sound information that accurate management decisions can be taken and other support departments deployed to function well.”

While applauding Onne Port for unity and integration as a family port, he assured the staff that the acting managing director of NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko is working assiduously to address staff welfare issues, even as he is fighting to block leakages and improve revenue generation.

Earlier, head, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Onne Port, Mrs. Barbara Ejemeh Nchey-Achukwu, lauded the performance of the outgoing the port manager, Dr. Dantsoho, especially “in making great impact and transformation, from manual uploading of manifest to electronic process at WACT, through the help of the acting MD of NPA.”

She said he did well in handling security matters, host community engagement and helped Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT) operations come into existence, among others.

In separate speeches, Comrade Ebenezer O.  Ajayi, chairman, Senior Staff Association (SSA) of NPA Onne Port, and Comr Thomas Ameze, secretary of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), commended the outgoing port manager.
