Yellow House Wins First Position as Unenurhie Primary School Ends Inter-House Sports Competition

The 5th annual inter-house sports competition of Unenurhie Primary School, Unenurhie in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has come and gone with Yellow House emerging in the first position as the overall winner of the sporting event.

Yellow House won with 147 points, followed by Green House as second position with 134 points, followed by Red House as third position with 122 points and lastly, Blue House as fourth position with 102 points.

The sports competition which took place on 28rh March, 2025 at the school playground featured sporting activities like 50m race, 100m race, 200m race, 400m, Filling the baskets with balls, lime race, relay race, old pupils race, invited schools relay race, staff race and other field events with four houses participating.

In her address during the sports competition, the headteacher of the school, Mrs. Stella Ogilo thanked members of the host community especially the immediate past president-general, Mr Peter Maison and his executive committee for being source of hope and light to them at every of their challenging moments in the school. She also thanked some of the youths in the community for being supportive to them in most times.

Mrs. Ogilo however concluded her address by asking for more support from the community and the Delta state government as the school is lacking many valuable things to move forward.

Responding to the address by the chairman of the occasion, Mr. Peter Maison, who was represented by Mr. Emmanuel Manson, said, “We have listened to the welcome address as presented by the headteacher of our primary school with keen interest. And therefore promised that, I will present your address to the chairman of the occasion immediately I leave this arena. As you already know, the chairman is a community leader you mostly relied on during the time of needs.

“In this case, he will be very delighted as well to do more when the time comes. You know he’s a lover of education. However, me as an invitee and a representative of the chairman here, I will always play my role to make sure the school moves forward. The little I can do as a person and member of this community, I will be glad to do it at all times,” he said.

Earlier the school had conducted heat, a pre-sporting activity where some track events were done with the four houses participating. During the heat event, Yellow House scored 46 points, Green House scored 34 points, Red House scored 22 points and lastly Blue House scored 20 points. At the end of the sports competition, these points were added to make the final results and positions of the competing houses. The event was supervised and co-ordinated by NAPHER, Ughelli North chapter.

Schools that participated in the sports competition were Mukoro Mowoe primary school, Evwreni, Mariere primary school, Evwreni, Udu primary school, Uwheru, Oghene-Egoh primary school, Urede-Uwheru, Odja primary school, Uwheru and others. They participated in relay race where Udu primary school took first position in the boys category while Mariere primary school took first position in the girls category.
