Barr. George Turnah, the South-South Zonal Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and ally of FCT minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, has raised alarm over alleged threat to his life, while calling on President Bola Tinubu to save his life.
Turnah, who was until February 14th 2025 served as the Executive Assistant in Public Affairs and Social Orientation to Governor Douye Diri, said his family was also being threatened.
In a statement to the president, made available to journalists, he said, “I am writing to bring to your urgent attention a serious matter of urgent attention concerning my safety and well being following an ideological disagreement with Governor Douye Diri regarding his involvement in the plot to form a coalition political party ahead of the 2027 election. l believe it is right for the southern part of Nigeria to be allowed a full term presidency as it was for President Mohamadu Bihari.”
He said that in line with his political alignment with Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, “we have scheduled the inauguration of the Bayelsa State chapter of a grassroot pro-Tinubu movement, ‘New Associates,’ along with a mega rally in solidarity and appreciation for the developmental strides in Bayelsa State and Niger Delta.”
They also want to use the opportunity to celebrate the appointment of notable sons and daughters of Bayelsa State into positions of trust and it is scheduled to take place on the 12th of April, 2025, he said.
Turnah explained that in March 25th, 2025, Governor Douye Diri publicly called him out during a state security meeting council and Elders council and labelled him an enemy of the state and ljaw nation for proposing a rally to honour the president and FCT minister on ljaw land.
“He claimed that the rally was inappropriate because Mr President declared a state of emergency in Rivers State which led to the suspension of ljaw governor and alleged that the FCT minister had insulted ljaw people, thus suggesting that he should not visit or should not be honoured in Bayelsa State, Turnah said.
He said these threats to his life and his family have forced them to move out of their home and seek safety in an undisclosed hotel in Yenagoa.
