Rivers State governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has unveiled the mascot and theme song for the 2018 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) holding in Port Harcourt.
Describing the unveiling ceremony as the beginning of activities for NAFEST 2018, at the Government House Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Governor Wike said: “It is a pleasure that the state is hosting the entire country once again. This shall provide the platform for the entire country to witness first-hand the culture and tradition of our people.
“This festival will further emphasize that Rivers State is peaceful and the best destination for investments in the country. It is also the best destination for tourism “.
He urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure the success of NAFEST 2018.
In her remarks, Rivers State commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Tonye Oniyide said that the mascot for NAFEST 2018 is a duck, which lives both on land and water, just like the landscape of the state.
She said that the mascot signifies peace, friendship and good luck, which are the hallmarks of NAFEST 2018.
She called on Nigerians to enjoy the festival as it will unite people from different parts of the country.
The Rivers State Council of Arts and Culture thrilled guests at the unveiling ceremony with Rivers and national traditional music.
