We Met to Sensitize Members on Our Cooperatives, Peace in Niger Delta ~ Tonye Bobo

The leader and chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Program, ex-agitators (Third phase), Tonye Bobo, said the group convened a meeting last week in Yenagoa to brainstorm on thorny issues on Niger Delta, and also to sensitize Third phase members on the need to key into the proposed cooperatives the Interim administrator of Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP), Col Millard Dixon Dikio (rtd), had initiated for them.

Bobo said Col Dikio means well for the future of Niger Delta youths, adding that with the cooperatives, the ex-agitators (third phase) would be empowered beyond the sixty-five thousand naira monthly stipend. He noted that with the cooperatives, members would become self-reliant and employers of labour.

“We assembled ourselves to key into his vision, and preach peace for the development of the region,” he said.

Bobo said they also discussed major strategies for enduring peace in the Niger Delta, hence, they intend to the preach the message to international oil companies (IOCs) and other stakeholders to come and invest in the Niger Delta region without fear of molestation and intimidation of their personnel and investments.

“Gone are the days when protest and road-blocking were applied, but we are advocates, delegates for dialogue and peaceful resolution to attract investors and developments to the region.”

He said despite provocative statements from certain quarters, the third phase is beckoning on everybody to embrace peace, noting that the next phase is to use intellectual as against protest and other tendencies that had hitherto painted the region in negative light to outsiders.

On factors behind the peaceful and successful deliberation by ex-agitators (3rd phase), drawn from Delta, Edo, Rivers and Ondo, without rancour, he said based on the need to work in synergy with security, as noted by the interim administrator, members had to comport themselves with sense of  decorum.

“As a vision carrier of the 3rd phase, l have passed the message of peace, security unity, dialogue as panacea to development of the Niger Delta region,” he said.
