Value Chain Traders Organisation of Nigeria (VACTON), an umbrella body for manufacturers, importers, exporters, traders and other related organisations, has been inaugurated with the aim of trade facilitation and elimination of business malpractices.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, on the emergence of the organisation, chairman, board of trustees and national president of VACTON, Dr. Ralph John explained that part of the aims and objectives of the organisation are the elimination of illegal business practices that are denting the image of Nigeria and anti-smuggling of drugs and fake products which endanger people’s health.
Other objects include elimination of “illegal exporting and importing of goods and crude oil” as well as “illegal purchase of arms and ammunition that provide injustice and suffering of the people in Nigeria.”
He said that VACTON would collaborate with security and other government agencies like the Nigeria Customs Service, NAFDAC and others in the performance of its duties stressing that the organisation will also ensure the protection of its members.
According to John, VACTON has been duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and is already liaising with government and other private agencies to create awareness of its existence and ensure smooth operation.
He said “the aspect of ensuring anti-smuggling of goods, the aspect of bringing in drugs that are illegal, the aspect of trade malpractices would be looked into by Value Chain”, adding “the organisation will work with other security agencies to make these happen”.
Other organisations and security agencies already existing in government will not be enough to curtail or checkmate these illegal activities. We need to work with these agencies to enhance performance.”
John assured that business performance would be boosted to a large extent by the activities of Value Chain, adding that “most of the businesses that go on in the country are having challenges with the authorities, Value Chain will come in to help them out both at the National Assembly and with state agencies.”
He urged businesses to buy into the vision of Value Chain, saying that there were so many benefits with membership of the organisation.
“When members register with VACTON, we will need to know the type of business they do, and having known that when they have issues with issues doing their business we come in there,” he said.
