Uwheru in UK Donates Toilet Facility to Udu Primary School

… As Oborifori Forum Renovates Classrooms

It was celebration galore for the pupils and staff of Udu Primary School, Uwheru in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as Uwheru Union in London, United Kingdom donated an ultra modern toilet facility and a mono pump to the school. 

Presenting an address at the commissioning of the projects, headmistress of the school, Mrs. Edna Ishaka, thanked Uwheru sons and daughters in London, United Kingdom for the kind gesture and acts of benevolence shown to the community and to humanity especially to the less privileged ones in the society.

The head teacher specially thanked Bar Sunny Idigbe and Chief S.S. Obruche for being initiators of the social programme and projects. Like Oliver Twist, she also asked for more by tasking the Delta State government and the people of Uwheru kingdom to come to their aid by fencing the school, providing security guards and also providing more teachers. 

The Education Secretary of Ughelli North LGA, Chief Pius Omubaye who was at the occasion with the NUT chairman, Ughelli North chapter, Comr. Augustine Ovuevuraye, assured the headmistress that he would forward the school’s challenges and requests to the appropriate quarters for immediate attention. Chief Omubaye also lauded the donors of the projects, appealing to other people and social groups to emulate the philanthropic gestures of these groups of Uwheru people. 

Speaking in the same vein, the president-general of Uwheru kingdom, Chief (Hon.) Macpherson Igbedi who was there with members of his national executive committee thanked the donors of the projects and also promised to support all the public schools in Uwheru kingdom with their own means in order to bring them to limelight.

He also called on the state government to respond immediately to the challenges of providing teachers and also to fence the school to protect pupils and staff of the school, describing the Udu Primary School as one of the oldest primary schools in Ughelli North LGA, founded in 1912. 

However, representative of Uwheru Union in London, Chief S.S. Obruche called on Uwheru sons and daughters in various places and positions across the globe to facilitate the execution of different projects in Uwheru kingdom. He also promised to do more to better the living conditions of Uwheru people especially children of school age.

Thereafter, the toilet facility and the mono pump were handed over to the school authority after Chief Utho Ogarivi, a former president-general of Uwheru kingdom cut the tape to commission them. 

Meanwhile, three classrooms in the same Udu Primary School, Uwheru were fully renovated and a motorized mower provided by Oborifori Forum. Oborifori Forum is a socio-cultural organization formed by Uwheru people within and outside the kingdom for easy communication and fast development of the land. The group is very much noted for embarking on many social projects across the entire Uwheru kingdom.

In a chat with our correspondent during the event, one of the members of the Oborifori Forum who spoke on their behalf, Engr. Roland Odjeni said, Oborifori Forum is always ready to do more for Uwheru people because, there was no place like home.

He advised the pupils and staff of the school to take good care of all the projects executed and donated to the school.

Mr. Itama who anchored the event was of the view that, government should play its role to the people even though philanthropists were around to support in their personal ways. The event was attended by traditional heads of each of the Quarters in Uwheru kingdom, most elderly men in the kingdom, traditional chiefs, women leaders and host of others.
