Uwheru Agog as UPU’s Bayelsa Chapter President, Oruru, Lays Mother to Rest

The Egbo quarter in Uwheru kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area was agog as dignitaries from all walks of life thronged the ancient community to lay to rest the aged mother of Olorogun Charles Oruru, late madam Ejovwoke Eunice Oruru, who died at the age of 88 years.

Among dignitaries that attended the event described as a ‘Celebration of Life’ were politicians and captains of industries from all over the country and the Diaspora.

Some of them included Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) chieftains and those of Uwheru Development Union (UDU) Bayelsa State chapter.

The Okobaro 1 of Urhobo in Bayelsa State, HRM King Joshua Apoyi Aweyu and his oloroguns were in attendance, dressed in their traditional regalia.

Others were the executives of various Urhobo Progress Union across Delta State and beyond.

Business associates of Olorogun Charles Oruru, who is also the chairman of Uwheru Development Union in Bayelsa State, were led by the vice chairman of UDU, Mr Joel Idama; while the patron, Mr Gabriel Obavbo and other members were present to grace the epoch making occasion.

Other groups that were present include the Delta Indigenes United Forum in Bayelsa State, led its president, ASP Ambrose Obi, South – South council of traditional rulers council and Delta Political Forum and various women groups and sub-branches of Urhobo Progress Union in Bayelsa State.

Speaking to journalists, Olorogun Charles Oruru extended his appreciation and gratitude to all and sundry for finding time out of their tight schedules to join him in the celebration of life of his late mother, late madam Ejovwoke Eunice Oruru.

He prayed that God takes them back to their respective destinations as well as replenish them financially and spiritually.

Our correspondent who was at the event reported that there was enough refreshments for guests and community members, while they were equally entertained with Urhobo traditional music and various local orators that added pep to the gathering as various women groups resplendended in various wrappers danced to the admiration of everyone present .

He further reported that a statement jointly signed by Olorogun Charles Oruru, for the children, and S.A.I Onakpoyuvwuru, for the family, stated that mama’s burial rites started with her corpse from Grace and Mercy Mortuary, Ughelli to Egbo- Uwheru which was followed by an open funeral service at church of Anglican at Egbo-Uwheru, thereafter interment and entertainment of guests. While there was social in-law visit on Sunday to terminate the burial rites.

He further thanked and commended the families of Oruru Usiakpoeje and Ejovwoke Erihrineda all of Uwheru in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State for their moral and financial contributions towards the successful burial and prayed that the almighty God will enlarge their coast bountifully.
