It was yet another remarkable festive period in Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as a lover of cultural and traditional activities, Mr. Oghenekohwiroro Diamond Utuedor, was conferred with the special Unugbedjor chieftaincy title of the Ohworhu cultural festival.

Mr. Diamond Utuedor, who is now to be addressed as Olorogun Oghenekohwiroro Diamond Utuedor, was filled with joy as he obtained the revered traditional title, though young.

Speaking to our correspondent during the conferment, which took place at the residence of the Ohworhu chief priest, Olorogun Pa. Samson Ughojor Abrucha, the Ohworhu spokesman, Olorogun Johnson Efedudu, told the gathering that, “The Unugbedjor chieftaincy title is the most valued and respected traditional title we have in this community. Though we still respect chieftaincy titles obtained by our people from different traditional rulers, but this very one is our identity and origin. This is why we cherish it very well.

“In the same way, some Christians, as a result of sheer ignorance tagged this activity and the celebration of Ohworhu cultural festival as fetish and diabolic in nature. But the simple truth is that, this is just our culture. We can’t allow it to wipe away in our time. Don’t forget, any group of people without culture are worst than slaves and infidels. The only thing that made us to be known and recognized as Unenurhie people is just because of our cultural events like this very one our son is doing today.

“Therefore, I want to thank this our dear son for taking this bold step without considering his young age and also listening to some of his friends to achieve this feat in life. He has added a new feather to his hat,” he said.

Speaking in the same vein, Olorogun Terry Jabin aka ‘Oviedjo’ and also ‘Olotu-Ovwraghwa’ (Assistant Defence Minister) of Unenurhie community congratulated the new chief, adding that, “We the Ilorogun of Ohworhu and Unenurhie community are very happy today because we have new member in the council. We strongly believe that, this year’s Ohworhu cultural festival coming up in the month of September would be splendid and glamorous as usual.

“The truth is that, we are not serving idols as being insinuated by some Christians. We are only lovers and promoters of our culture. We want to encourage our people especially the youths to always be part of our cultural celebrations. It’s a way to identify yourself and also unite with your people in love and happiness,” he said.

Addressing guests and dignitaries during the reception, the new traditional chief, Olorogun Oghenekohwiroro Diamond Utuedor, whose joy knew no bound said, “Words are not enough to express my warmest greetings to all my invited guests here especially to the council of traditional chiefs of the Ohworhu cultural festival. I’m indeed grateful to you for your huge support and sacrifice you made to make sure the chieftaincy installation becomes a success.

“I want to happily thank our Papa, Olorogun Ughojor. He’s the Ohworhu chief priest and also the oldest man in the entire Unenurhie community. He’s very pious in handling all these traditional activities. To live to attain this old age in this our wicked world is not a day’s journey. In the same way, I want to thank my co-chiefs and our community leaders. They are always there to promote all our cultural festivals.

“I’m a young man, but I always love to promote and participate in the Ohworhu cultural festival. I can’t run away from it. It’s part of my religious beliefs and I’m happy today to become Olorogun in Unenurhie community. Once again, I thank all of you for joining me and my family to celebrate this great occasion,” he said.
