The Urhobo World United Union (UWUU) in the United Arab Emirates has again demonstrated the strength and vibrancy of its culture and community.
The 2023 End of Year Party/Urhobo Day was nothing short of a spectacular event that celebrated the Urhobo heritage with pomp, colour and grandeur.
The UWUU, UAE 2023 celebration was particularly remarkable, not just for the Urhobo community but for the spirit of unity and camaraderie that it fostered among diverse Nigerian ethnic groups. The event, graced by representatives from the Edo, Itsekiri, Igbo and Yoruba communities, was a beautiful tapestry of Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity, woven into an evening of joy, friendship and shared values.
The atmosphere was loving, with the air filled with the sounds of Urhobo music and the sights of traditional dances that had everyone swaying to the rhythm. The aroma of delicious Urhobo dishes intermingled with those from other Nigerian cultures, creating a culinary delight that was a feast worthy of celebration.
It was heartwarming to see members of the Edo, Itsekiri, Igbo and Yoruba communities not only in attendance but actively participating in the festivities. Their presence was a testament to the shared bond among Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds in foreign countries.
The exchange of pleasantries, cultural knowledge and laughter served as a reminder that despite our differences here in Nigeria, we are always united by our humanity and our shared aspirations for harmony and progress in other countries.
The Urhobo World United Union in UAE has indeed set a precedence for cultural integration and mutual respect. The success of the event could be measured not just in the numbers of attendance, but in the genuine expression of joy and the forging of new friendships amongst Nigerians in the country. It was an evening where culture was celebrated, relationships were strengthened and unity was the resounding theme.
