University Don Praises Hannah Reuben’s Exploits at World Wrestling Championship

The head of Department Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport), Professor Christian Elendu, has commended Hannah Reuben after she broke a 50-year-old record at 36th World Military Wrestling Championship.

Professor Elendu, “on behalf of the vice chancellor, dean and the entire University of Port Harcourt commended the achievement of Hannah Reuben, a final year student of the university,” for clinching gold for the Nigerian Military at the just concluded World Military Wrestling Championship held in Azerbaijan from December 27 to 3, 2023.

Professor Christian Elendu who made the commendation in Port Harcourt on Monday said the achievement of Hannah Reuben is a testament to what the department and the university at large stand for. 

He noted that the Sports and Exercise Science Department is geared towards the development of young Nigerians who have found interest in sporting activities.

According to Professor Elendu, the idea of the sports department is to offer both education and create avenue for interest persons to strive in sports without one area being neglected. 

On her part, Hannah Reuben who won gold medal for the Nigerian Wrestling Military, the first in 50 years, expressed joy for the permission given her by the school authority to participate in the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship. 

Hannah heaped praises on one of the most prestigious universities in Nigeria, adding that it gives young people who seek education and sports as platforms to actualize their dreams. 

The newly crowned Military World champion called on young people who are into sports not to neglect their education but look for institutions that can enhance such ambition like the University of Port Harcourt.  

Hannah also lauded the efforts of the president of NWF, who is also the commissioner for Youths and Sports Bayelsa State Hon Daniel Igali, Coach Victor Kodei, Coach Odi Godspower Geoffrey and team mates, as well as the International Military Sports Council – Wrestling Committee Representative, Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) Femedein Timipre Okou, who is also an alumnus of the sports and exercise science, Uniport for motivating her through necessary scientific trainings.
