The president general of Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Peter Maison, has called on residents of the community to adhere strictly to all federal and Delta State government orders on reducing the impact of the deadly coronavirus that is spreading like wildfire in the state and the country.
The security expert gave this advice as part of his Easter message to his people.
Speaking to our correspondent at his residence, the community leader said, “I want to advise my people here to adhere strictly to all the government orders especially the lockdown to avoid the further spread of the virus in the state.
“The government should also try to bring their sensitization programmes down to the grassroots. You will agree with me that all the jingles and announcements on this coronavirus in the radio and television are not accessible to so many people in our villages. Therefore, to spread the news to these poor villagers, the government should support us to use local town criers to send the message across to all of them in the language they can understand,” he said.
Mr. Maison also solicited for palliatives from the Delta State government to his people, especially the needy and the downtrodden in the community. “We heard that so much money has been released by the Federal Government and other individual donors to support the fight against this coronavirus. This money should be spread judiciously across all communities in the state. I must at this time thank those individuals and our representatives in government that are supporting the people with food items and other palliatives.
“The government must remove politics from sharing whatever accrues to the state in regard of this deadly virus. In fact, the virus of hunger will first kill the poor before the actual coronavirus.
“Let me at this time thank our brother and son, former EDP in the board of the NDDC, Chief Engr. Samuel Adjogbe for supporting the entire Evwreni kingdom with food items. We are like Oliver Twist that is asking for more from both individuals and the government,” he said.
As at the time of filing in this report, all religious activities and social events were totally shut down in both Unenurhie and Evwreni communities. The Easter celebration was not felt in the two communities as it used to be before now.
