The president-general of Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Peter Maison, has donated a Sienna Jeep to the community’s vigilante group.

This, according to the Mr. Maison, was to strengthen the efficiency of the local security outfit, as well as ease their movement within and around the community, towards curbing criminal acts and other security challenges confronting the people.

Making the presentation to the vigilante group, the president-general called on the Federal Government to consider the plight of local security groups across the country, as well as how to provide their basic needs by including them in a monthly payroll.

“There’s no doubt, the work of these local security groups in our various communities across the country are commendable. Community policing is part of our national security system and the government must make it to work accordingly. I want to at this time thank our vigilante group for the good work they have been doing in this our community for protecting the people against crimes.

“This is why my leadership facilitated the purchase of this vehicle, with support from sons and daughters of the community’ to support their movement from place to place. I want to here again commend all those financial supporters that made this dream to come to pass. God will continue to bless and promote them for us,” he said.

Receiving the keys of the vehicle from the president-general during the official presentation which took place at the community town hall, chairman of the vigilante group, Mr. Friday Diamond aka ‘Ogbo,’ thanked the president-general and all who supported him to buy the vehicle for the local security outfit.

He said, “We are indeed grateful to you and all those that supported this vision for procuring this vehicle for us. The work of providing security in a community is quite enormous and strenuous. We can’t do it all alone except the community leadership gives us full support and also the federal and state governments.

“We must know that, providing the vehicle is one thing, while maintaining it is another task. We still need more of your support to strengthen us as a security group in the community. This will however enable us to discharge our duties to the people without fail. Once again, we are grateful for this great offer and support.”
