The president-general of Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Peter Maison, has called for what he tagged, ‘Unenurhie Prayer Day/Thanksgiving’.
In a recent media chat with our correspondent at his residence in Unenurhie town, the retired security consultant and businessman said that “In the past few years, this community faced a lot of challenges, both internal and external, ranging from leadership tussle which finally led to communal crisis that claimed the precious life of our brother. This again led to the destruction of other landed properties in the community.
“Though it’s a big setback to the community, but we are thankful to God for His protection and blessings upon this land at the moment. As I speak, reconciliation process is on-going and all the parties that are involved in the crisis are accepting our terms of settlement and reconciliation. We thank God for this great opportunity again.”
The president-general further noted that, “As different events and problems unfold everyday in the community, we now discovered that as a community, we need to pray to God in unison over our common problems here. We need to seek the face of God over all the challenges confronting us in the land. This is why as the president-general of the community, I’m calling on every indigene of the community, both at home here and in the Diaspora, to faithfully join hands together to establish and organize Unenurhie Prayer Day/Thanksgivings.
“The plan is already on the way, all we need now is the financial support to actualize this great dream. It’s a project all Unenurhie sons and daughters must support. Our people should wake up from their long slumber now to pursue this project to a successful end.
“I plead with our youths to key into this vision as it stands to liberate them from the shackles of the enemies upon their destinies and future. They stand to gain more in the spiritual exercise as they are the leaders of the community tomorrow. I advise them to be peaceful with the elders and leaders of the community,” Maison said.
Speaking also on the same issue, the vice president-general of the community, Evang. Isaac Oriodofe, urged all the indigenes and residents of the community to continue to pray against crises and disunity in the land.
According to the Anglican evangelist, “Prayer is the key to every closed door in our individual lives and those against our community. We want to also use this medium to appeal to our men of God in the land to partner with the community leadership to achieve this dream. Their prayer support is needed in this race.
“Secondly, our plan is to establish the Unenurhie Prayer Day as an annual event that will bring together all sons and daughters of the community whenever it’s being celebrated. Many communities are doing it. At least, we should try to emulate what is good from our neighbours. Let all Unenurhie people, wherever they are, key into this vision by rendering financial support to the community leadership to embark on it now. As a community and individuals, we stand to gain so many things from the spiritual event. It’s time for Unenurhie community to draw close to God in prayers and thanksgivings,” he said.
