In his response, chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Williams Ilayah, who spoke on behalf of the other members promised to abide by the rules of the electoral process as defined by the community constitution.

Our correspondent further reports that immediately after the inauguration of the electoral committee, a delegation of community leaders comprising of elders, opinion leaders, standing committees members, women, youths and other respected personalities in the community paid a courtesy visit to the president-general in his residence, urging him to again accept the mantle of leadership of the community.

The chairman of the marriage committee, and also a former youth chairman, Mr. Austin Abrucha said, “Without dispute or arguments, your antecedents and achievements as a progressive leader of Unenurhie community is uncontestable. It’s now we know that, leadership is in our community. Our purpose of coming here this evening is to appeal to you to vie for the position of the president-general again as our constitution allows for a second term. We want you to rule us for the next three years again to build on this new foundation you have laid as your leadership is described by everybody as being excellent.”

Also speaking during the visit, the Olotu’Rode (prime minister) of the community, Mr. Moneyard Edjere, told the president-general, Mr Peter Maison, to do away with mischief makers and miscreants in the community and focus on his leadership drive that has produced a lot of results and uncountable achievements in the community.

He also urged the president-general to vie for the same position in the next elections in the community, promising that, all the community leaders were solidly behind him and his team.

In his response, the president-general, Mr Maison, said he has accepted their plea to run again for the position of the president-general of the community.

Hear him: “I’m really happy for this your visit to me and my executive committee today. It shows that you love the community and also the present leadership. I can’t just stand up and begin to sing my own praises everywhere as some people are doing right now. Let your good works sing your praises and campaign for you.

“Secondly, we can’t make this huge success without your support to this government from day one. And you should also know that, I have a humble and working executive committee. So on their behalf, I’m announcing to you that we will come out for the elections again. We are doing everything in accordance to our constitution. We are not forcing ourselves on the people. If we win at the end of the elections, we become your leaders and if we fail, we join forces with those that win to move our dear community forward in growth and development. For giving us this assurance and hope, we won’t disappoint you too. Let the constitution be our guide and watchword,” he said.
