Unenurhie community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State and members of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Unenurhie, were in a festive mood as president-general of the community, Mr. Peter Maison, gave his daughter, Miss Rita Edesiri Maison’s hand in marriage to Mr. Stanley Rukevwe Emene of Kokori Inland, Agbon Kingdom in Ethiope East Local Government Area.
In a sermon during the wedding, Evang. Promise Bateren, who was the guest preacher advised the new couple to always learn from each other, while describing marriage as “an institution of unending learning.”
Evang. Bateren however noted that, the high rate of divorce among modern day marriages was as a result of disobedience to the Word of God by the couples.
The sermon, which took the path of a counseling session, frowned at a situation where married couples especially Christians would disagree at home, only to wash their dirty linen in public.
The man of God also advised parents of the new couple to always give the new family a chance to grow in their marital journey, encouraging them in words and prayers.
He ended his sermon with prayers for favour, good health and fruitfulness for the new couple and also the congregation.
Meanwhile, the couple’s traditional marriage and payment of bride price, according to the traditions and customs of the Unenurhie people, was first conducted at the bride’s father’s compound, where the father gave his daughter and her husband their blessings and prayers in the presence of family members and community leaders.
Thereafter, a reception was organized by the father of the bride, Mr. Peter Maison, at the on-going multi-million Unenurhie Event Centre for dignitaries and guests.
The traditional marriage which was conducted by the marriage committee of the Unenurhie community headed by Mr. Austin Abrucha saw several dignitaries in attendance.
Speaking to our correspondent during the second reception held at Ughelli for dignitaries and guests by the couple, the groom, Mr Stanley Rukevwe Emene, who was full of joy said, “I’m now a complete and a responsible man according to our culture and the Word of God.
“In fact, our joy knew no bound today as God has been helpful and gracious to our needs and care especially from the day one of the marriage till today, the grand reception for our various guests and dignitaries.
“I want to happily thank my parent in-laws for taking me, not just as a son in-law, but as one of their biological children. They are indeed very supportive in every way to the success of our marriage. The same way, I want to thank my wife’s siblings for their support in this marriage.
“My family members and friends can’t be left out. The success of this marriage is as a result of their support and prayers. I thank all men of God for supporting us with prayers.”
The wedding service which was conducted by the vicar of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Unenurhie, Rev. Peter Atumremu was supported by Ven. Charles Esegba of the Western Izon Diocese.
