Unenurhie Ends Annual Prayers, Cultural Celebration

The 2023 edition of the Day of Prayers/Cultural Celebration amongst the Unenurhie people in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, tagged, ‘The King’s Expectations,’ has ended with a call on sons and daughters of the community to participate fully in subsequent editions of the event.

The two-day event, which is usually celebrated on March 25th and 26th every year, attracted men of God from various churches, through the auspices of the Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) in the community. The event also attracted sons and daughters of the community, residing within and outside the community, including non-indigenous residents and guests. 

Addressing the crowd of leaders, men, women and youths of the community during the two-day event, the president general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison, who was highly elated over the huge attendance at this year’s event and the success stories so far recorded within his term in office, thanked the leadership of CAN in the community for their daily prayer and support for the growth and development of the community. 

“I want to thank God for protecting us to organize another edition of this Christian festival of Unenurhie community. We have fully established this Unenurhie Day of Prayers/Cultural Celebration to be part of our ways of life and to be celebrated annually in the community as a second Christian festival.

“This must continue, even after our tenure as leaders of the community. I want to specially thank all pastors and churches in the community through the body of CAN. They are always there for us at every time we need them in prayers and emotional support. Let me also thank my executive committee and all the other arms of government in the community for always working together as a formidable team to achieve all these success stories. Truly, only one tree can’t make a forest. I still want to recognize and appreciate the great support always given to us by the Adjogbe family. They are indeed great sons of Unenurhie community and we are proud of them. Finally, I want to commend the tireless and selfless efforts of the planning committee of this event. They are really good managers of both human and financial resources in this event. And to every one of you, both indigenes and residents that make it to this event.”

Speaking on the theme of this year’s event titled, ‘The King’s Expectations,’ the two guest preachers on the first day, Evang. Sunny Jedje and Evang. Sunny Etaedafe, told Unenurhie people that, Jesus Christ expectations for the community was very high and His mind is to turn Unenurhie into a tourist centre which would attract thousands of people around the world to the community either through business or for Christian activities, like Jerusalem.

The two guest preachers also called on the Unenurhie people to always live a righteous life to attract the expectations of God in their individual lives and as a community. The day’s activities was rounded up with a prayer session “to liberate and delivered the people.” 

The second day, which was also the final day, was specifically set aside to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Unenurhie people, especially in the area of cultural dances. It was a day to behold as many cultural dance groups ranging from little children, women dance group and finally bridal train dance entertained the audience with glamour.

To also add beauty to the day’s celebration was the invitation of all social clubs in the community. They all dressed in their different attires and showcased their rich cultural heritage. As usual, the day’s activities were rounded up with the Word of God as spoken by Pastor Festus Umuero of RCCG, enumerating seven areas of the King’s Expectations of the Unenurhie people. 

The two-day event was officially declared closed by the chairman of the planning committee, Rev. Dr. Joseph G. O. Imudje and his secretary, Comr. James Okparikpu who also doubled as the president of UCDU, Lagos Branch.

The chairman who was happy over the successful and peaceful celebration also called on sons and daughters of the community to key into the Unenurhie Day of Prayers/Cultural Celebration by throwing their financial support behind it every year.

Rev. Imudje however thanked all the invited guest preachers and the leadership of CAN in the community for their support during the programme. He also thanked the president general and all the other leaders of the community for nursing the great dream to fruition.
