The leaders and people of Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have expressed gratitude to God “for a successful and peaceful ‘Prayer Day’ celebration.”
A thanksgivings service in this regard, which took place at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in the community, was led by the president-general of the community, Mr. Peter Maison, and Dr. Johnson Abrucha, the deputy spokesman (Akpohor) of Unenurhie community, who represented the Odion’Rode of Unenurhie community, His Highness, Moses Inore, and in the company of other leaders of the community.
In his sermon during the service, Archdeacon of the Western Izon Diocese of the Anglican Communion and “a son of the soil,” Ven. Charles Esegba, lauded the community leaders for embracing God at this time in their leadership and also for establishing the ‘Unenurhie Prayer Day’ as an annual event in the community.
The Anglican senior priest however enjoined the Unenurhie people to always give their full support to the Peter Maison-led administration in prayers and productive ideas to bring about the needed changes in governance and infrastructural development in the community.
Ven. Esegba ended his sermon with prayers for peace and unity of the community, supported by the vicar of the church, Rev. Peter Atumremu.
Speaking briefly to our correspondent immediately after the thanksgivings service, the president-general of the community, Mr. Peter Maison, who was highly elated, said, “I’m overwhelmed with joy today seeing the different miracles God has showered on us as a community since the past three years.
“First, we are living at peace and harmony since the past three years without any form of crisis or internal issues. This is a great miracle God has done for us. Secondly, we proposed and planned this Unenurhie Prayer Day just like a dream. From nowhere, God blessed us with the financial resources to organize the programme peacefully and successfully. Today, we have dedicated our community to God Almighty for His protection and abundant blessings upon our people.
“Thirdly, we ended our first tenure administration in the community with peace and so many achievements to write home about. At the end, we organized a conference to present our stewardship to our people and also organized an election to vote new leaders to take over the community leadership.
“To crown it all, many of us who again vied for different elective positions, won and the election was peaceful, free, credible and fair. In fact, all these great miracles moved us as a community to thank God today. We want to also thank all our people especially all the pastors in the community for their everyday prayer support to us and the entire community.”
