The vigilante groups of Evwreni, Unenurhie and Uwheru communities, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have paid a solidarity visit to the president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison
The vigilante groups, from the three communities, led by their commandants, called on the president-general for support and partnership in order to promote and boost the security status of the communities situated along the Ughelli/Patani East-West federal road.
Speaking on behalf of the other commandants and members of the vigilante groups during the visit, Comr. Prosper, commandant of Uwheru vigilante group, pointed out that, to achieve the best results in the provision of security services to their people, the various vigilante groups “must work together in synergy and full partnership.
“We as vigilante groups from these three communities must work together in synergy and full partnership. We must accept that, what happens to one, happens to the other. When we have certain challenges confronting us as a group, we should join hands together as a people determined to achieve same goals to tame and succumb such challenges. We shouldn’t allow enmity, jealousy, divisive thoughts to tear us apart.
“In the same way, I want to plead with our president-general here to give us the needed support as security groups to achieve our expected goals. Without the community leadership, the vigilante group can’t succeed in its surveillance and security services. My PG, we really need your support to move forward,” he said.
In his response, the president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison thanked the vigilante groups for the visit, adding, “Actually, you have delved into my heart to bring out what I really wanted to say to you. I appeal to all of you to work together in love, unity and peace. Don’t allow any challenge or problem to tear you apart. Report such challenges to us, the leaders of your host communities. In the same way, I will try as much as possible to reach out to my other colleagues to see how we can give you the needed support.
“We know provision of security to our people is a major priority which every leadership can’t joke with. Security is an essential part of every successful leadership. We will also try to present, as community leaders, our security needs to both the Delta state and federal governments.”
The visit ended with the traditional presentation of kola nuts, drinks and support from the president-general of Unenurhie community.
