The primary health centre in Unenurhie community, Evwreni kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State was recently opened for operations by the chairman of the LGA, Chief Hon. Godwin Adode, with words of commendation and appreciation to the community leadership for “a job well done.”

The chairman, who was represented by the leader of the council’s legislative arm, Rt. Hon. James Okonedo, accompanied by the councillor representing Evwreni Ward 08, Hon. Ezekiel Arue Odeimor, commended the efforts of the community leaders in putting up the health facility and handing same over to government for effective operations.

“I’m indeed happy for Unenurhie community especially the president-general and his cabinet for this foresight and vision. As you are handing over this project to the local government area I will personally present your case to the chairman of the local government. I believe, the chairman will work on how this health infrastructure can be completed soon because of the basic importance of health to everybody. If community leaders can support government like this, I believe we will move higher and faster in growth and development.”

Also, executive secretary/HOD of Primary Healthcare Services at the council, Dr. Johnson Uyovwiesevwa, urged Unenurhie people to always assist the health workers in the primary health centre (PHC) by providing security network and other forms of assistance for the smooth running of the health facility.

“At least, the community has done their best by going thus far. Yet, the work hasn’t ended as we can see. The president-general should try to constitute a village development committee of which the secretary of the committee would be the matron or the head of the PHC. This committee is to work in synergy with the health centre in order to ensure its smooth running.

“Secondly, this health centre we are going to open today belongs to the entire community, even though you have handed it over to the government. Therefore, you must take care of it and also protect the staff and equipment in it. I’m happy that this primary health centre will now be added to the list of PHCs in Delta State from today. It’s really a great achievement,” he said.

Earlier, president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr Peter Maison, solicited for support from the state government on community needs especially in this area of health. He said, “We are happy as a community that our efforts have yielded our expected results in completing this part of the abandoned cottage hospital through communal efforts. We are today handing it over to the government for onward operations. However, we all know that health is an essential need of everybody. This is why we are calling on our listening Governor (Ifeanyi) Okowa and our amiable local government chairman, Chief Hon. Godwin Adode to give us a modern and befitting health centre and to also help complete this abandoned cottage hospital for healthcare delivery to our people. We deserve it from this government.”

High point of the handing over ceremony was the official opening of the primary health centre by the representative of the Ughelli North local government chairman, Rt. Hon. James Okonedo in presence of Unenurhie community leaders and the Ughelli North health team.
