… Felicitate With Him on 62th Birthday
The executive committee of Travel Writers’ Corps of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, has applauded Bayelsa State governor’s urban renewal efforts, adding that “research findings indicate that investing 10% more in parks and recreation is associated with 2.3% increase in leisure visits and 1.3% increase in employment in the tourism industry.”
In a felicitation message to Governor Douye Diri on his 62th by the executive committee of the Travel Writers Corps, signed by Piriye Kiyaramo (chairman), Okioma Aherhoke (secretary) and Charitoo Mercy Diete-Spiff (public relations officer), the corps expressed satisfaction with ongoing urban renewal efforts within Yenagoa and its environs by the Diri-led administration, geared towards making the state capital an emerging tourist attraction within a short period in office.
“As travel journalists, we understand that urban beauty remains a powerful tool for economic growth and urban resurgence, though it comes with gentrification and displacements.
“Though some places may be more endowed with natural beauty, in the form of stunning coastlines or scenic neighbourhoods, cities can and do make themselves more beautiful and more attractive by taking deliberate steps in investing in parks and protecting landmarks and historic spaces.
“It is common knowledge that beautiful cities or places do not just occur naturally, but they are always products of good public policies and investment.
“There is no doubt that the landscape of Yenagoa metropolis is fast changing, with particular reference to the ongoing transformation at the popular Tombia Roundabout, which hitherto was an eye sore to visitors and tourists “
“Your Excellency, keep up with your ‘Yenagoa City Beautification Vision’, the statement concluded.
