Traditional Rulers’ Meeting In Port Harcourt, Not A Jamboree ~ Commissioner

The Rivers State commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Emma Okah says the hosting of the just concluded 9th General Assembly of the Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (CTRN) in Port Harcourt was not a jamboree as some people might think but an invaluable opportunity to promote national cohesion.

Okah who spoke to newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa recently said the meeting offered traditional rulers from across the country the opportunity to deliberate on issues affecting the nation and to fashion out ways of dealing with them.

He pointed out that the speeches made by the traditional rulers, as well as by Governor Nyesom Wike, went a long way to show that they are ready to jointly tackle the problems that have bedeviled the country.

“Anybody who listened to their speeches will know that they meant business when they said they would speak to authorities, blame authorities when they are blame worthy and commend them when they deserve commendation” he said.

The commissioner also disclosed the readiness of the traditional rulers to rise up and speak with one voice against the ills in the Nigerian society and realign the country back to the path of peace and security.

He noted that their choice of Port Harcourt as a place of meeting of that magnitude showed that they considered Rivers State safe enough, adding that their coming also helped to boost the economy of the state as those in the hospitality industry took advantage of the event to make money and employ more hands while the business men might seize the opportunity to meet with different stakeholders for the purpose of advancing investment opportunities in the state.
