The minister of state for Petroleum Resources and former of Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has appealed to Bayelsans to shun all acts of violence and lawlessness, and called for restraint.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the minister and made available to journalists.
Sylva also extended his profound apology to President Muhammadu Buhari, and his wife Mrs. Aisha Buhari, “over the avoidable disruption to their busy schedule which was caused by the events of the moment,” noting that the First couple had concluded arrangement to travel to Bayelsa State to witness the inauguration of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, David Lyon.
He said he has directed APC’s team of legal experts to study the situation critically and proffer legal options available to the party accordingly.
The minister called on all “APC supporters to remain faithful to, and have confidence in the wisdom and ability of the party leadership to provide direction at this very sensitive time.
“He therefore urged all Bayelsans irrespective of their differences to eschew violence and respect the security measures put in place by appropriate authorities.
Sylva said: “Let me conclude by assuring Mr. President and our party hierarchy that despite this temporary setback, APC in Bayelsa remains strong and its members resolute in our support for the ideals of a greater and prosperous Nigeria as envisioned by our President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari.”
He gave assurance that the APC mandate will be restored and that dream of a better, greater Bayelsa State will be actualized
