Gunmen suspected to be cultists have murdered a printer businessman identified as George Johnson Sopruchi, on Saturday night March 16, 2024, at Abakiliki street, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
An eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the gunmen trailed the printer to Abakiliki, close to Emenike Street, at about 8:30pm and shot him dead while he was “discussing with someone.”
The source also disclosed that the gunmen carted away the deceased’s motorcycle and one of his mobile phone.
According to our source, onlookers rushed the victim to the hospital where he was confirmed dead on Sunday morning.
There was been a similar killing of another young man on Thursday night 14 March, 2024, at Nanka/Lumuber Street, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt, which the spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed, noting that investigation is ongoing to apprehend the culprits.
The Rivers Police Command was yet to respond to inquiries on the latest incident at Abakiliki.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has warned cultists and other criminals to steer clear of crime as the hand of the law “is closer to them than they realise.”
CP Disu reiterated the warning in a statement on Sunday March 17, 2024, while announcing the arrest and arraignment of main suspects, Ejike Samuel, Victor Kokoriko, in a Port Harcourt gang war last month.
The statement disclosed that the suspects were arrested by Mile 1 Police Division “and later transferred to Anti-Cultism following credible intelligence.”
