A group, South South Youths Initiative (SSYI) has called for reinstatement of former Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Michael Ogar.
National President of the group, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar, who spoke during a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, called on the Commandant General (CG) of the NSCDC, to redeploy Ogar back to Rivers State to continue his fight against oil bunkering.
The NSCDC CG, last week ordered the immediate removal of Ogar from Rivers State following a face-off between the NSCDC and members of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) which led to blockage of the entrance of the Rivers State Command of the NSCDC over alleged seizure and sale of three trucks belonging to its members by the NSCDC.
The two oil unions had during the protest accused the NSCDC of selling off the products in the seized trucks without following due process.
The South South Youths backed Ogar’s decision to sell-off the trucks, maintaining that it acted inline with a valid court order and through directives from the Commandant General of the Corps.
“A court of competent jurisdiction before His Lordship, Honourable Justice S.I Mark in Port Harcourt had based on suit Number FHC/PH/MISC/470/2022, filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (Applicant) against Some Unknown Owners of Abandoned Tankers (Respondents) gave an interim order for the forfeiture of three trucks involved in illegal oil activities to the Federal Government”.
Comrade Oscar faulted NUPENG and IPMAN for going on protest over a matter that has been settled by the court, accusing top members of both unions of being involved in oil bunkering which was why they wanted Ogar out of the way at all cost.
He said, the NSCDC CG, should have waited for report of the investigation team he sent to Rivers State before taking action.
“It came to us like a surprise that he was redeployed while investigation was still ongoing. The Commandant General’s action was too fast”.
“We want the former state commandant to be reinstated because the Commandant General was too fast in redeploying him.
“We will follow up the matter to ensure that he’s reinstated because if that is not done, oil bunkerers and others involved in illegal oil activities would have a field day in the state’, he said.
