South South Development Commission, ‘Bold Step to Tackling Regional Challenges ~ MOSIEND

The Movement for the Survival of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the National Assembly over the “swift passage and signing into law” of the South South Development Commission (SSDC).

In a statement issued by its National Secretary, Amb. Winston C. Amain, MOSiEND said the passage of the SSDC “is a landmark achievement which underscored the present administration’s commitment to addressing the developmental challenges faced by the South-South region.

Amain said the establishment of the SSDC is a bold step toward fostering sustainable development, economic empowerment, and social justice for the Ijaw people and other ethnic nationalities in the South-South geo-political region.

“For far too long, the South-South region has grappled with infrastructure deficits, environmental degradation, and socio-economic disparities.”

“The SSDC will serve as a dedicated platform to tackle these issues, ensuring that our communities receive the attention and resources needed for meaningful progress. It will also amplify the voices of the people in shaping policies that directly impact their lives.”

“We particularly commend the National Assembly for prioritizing this initiative, demonstrating a deep understanding of the region’s unique needs and aspirations. The speedy passage of this bill reaffirms your dedication to inclusive governance and equitable development across Nigeria”

“As we celebrate this milestone, we urge the federal government to ensure that the SSDC is adequately funded and empowered to fulfill its mandate effectively.”

“It is crucial that all those appointed to in the commission, should ensured that funds are not mismanaged and they should borrow a leaf from the current Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in carrying out quantitative and qualitatively and necessary projects and programs that will complement Government efforts to drive development closer to the people.

“The success of this commission will depend on transparent governance, accountability, and collective effort from all stakeholders.

“In conclusion, we sincerely appreciate President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for their unwavering commitment to the South-South region’s progress.”

MOSIEND added that it looks forward to collaborating with your administration to ensure that the SSDC achieves its objectives and contributes to the overall development and prosperity of Nigeria.
