The killing of the late Shooting Stars Sports Club defender, Joseph Izu, has continued to generate reactions in Rivers State, with the state Football Administration (FA) being the latest to in condemning the killing.
In a release signed by the secretary of the Rivers State FA, Mr Benjamin Akubo, and made available to RootersWorld, the football body described the death of Mr Joseph Izu, who had just concluded the 2015/2016 season with 3SC, as very painful and sad.
The association condoled with the Izu family, his club and the people Of Okaki In Ahoada West Local Government Area over the “shocking demise of a great footballer whose life has been cut short by the wicked hand of death.”
The state FA urged the family to take solace in God and be comforted by the fact that the late footballer contribution to the development of football in his country and state.
Other groups and individuals, such as the president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Melvin Pinnick, the chairman Of the League Mgt Company, Alh Shehu Dikko, and the Rivers State Government have all joined in the condemnation of the brutal murder Of the young Nigerian footballer .
Our reporter gathered that the late 3SC ace defender, Joseph Izu, who went for a swim at the waterfront in his native Okaki in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, after holidaying in Port Harcourt, may have been killed by Nigerian soldiers on routine military patrol in Okaki Town, following a case of mistaken identity.
Since the resurgence of militant activities in the restive Niger Delta region, Nigerian soldiers have been stationed in there on the trail of militants and cultists ravaging the area.
