Sekibo Hails Monarch Over Book on Ogu Kingdom

Senator George Sekibo has commended the royal father of Ogu kingdom, His Majesty King Nicholas Dickson Ibiebele Nimenibo, Loko IX for his bold efforts at tracing and putting in book form the record of Ogu kingship over time.

Speaking as chairman of the launching of the book, ‘Before the Mantle’ by the Amanyanabo of Ogu kingdom, Chief (Senator) George Sekibo noted that “when proper records are kept, historical facts will not be distorted and those involved will have their true identity,” adding that “some facts contained in the book may be base for other historical clarifications with time.”

In the light of controversies that can arise, Senator Sekibo appealed to the Ogu monarch to set up a committee to harmonise the available historical facts of Ogu kingdom from various publications in order to put the records straight and better understandable, pointing out that “oral history by our forefathers has not done us much good because of distortions and colorations.”

In his speech, the royal father of the day, and chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, Amanyanabo of Opobo kingdom, said he was proud of the author as a 1st class traditional ruler that could find time, out of his busy schedule, to put down historical facts about his domain.

King Jaja, represented by His Majesty, King J. W. Okuruket-Nnabiget XIV, Okaan-Ama, Ngo land described the feat of the Ogu monarch as worthy of emulation because “what he has put in this book will serve as top-level information to all Ogu sons and daughters, while his hard work will also motivate others into fruitful academic ventures.”

The author and Amanyanabo of Ogu kingdom, King N.D.I. Nimenibo, Loko IX said it had been his desire from childhood to put in print someday his experiences in life for the young ones to learn from, adding that he hoped that the book would add to what so many persons know about Ogu kingdom and its traditional rulership, especially the Ogu dynasty.

The Ogu monarch observed that if the historical records of traditional communities are well-profiled, many inter and intra-communal feuds would be non-existent and peace would be enhanced. He said he was honoured by the presence of all the dignitaries and traditional rulers who graced the event in Port Harcourt on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

Royal fathers present at the event include the Amanyanabo of Ogoloma kingdom, His Majesty, King Emmanuel Obudibo, Ikwo V; Amanyanabo of Bolo-Se, HRH King Acheseinimie Micah Frank, Bolo Luka VII; Amanyanabo of Kirike town, His Royal Highness, King T. E. O. Ogube and His Royal Majesty, Igwe Charles Nwoye, Obi-Oha II of Amue kingdom of Enugu State.
