The Rotary Club of Evwreni in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on July 31, 2023, put smiles on the faces of pregnant women by presenting delivery kits to them.
The event which was described as the first Maternal and Child project since the Rotary Club was chartered, took place at the Ughelli Central Hospital, with over sixty pregnant women in attendance.
Presenting the kits, vice president of the club, Rtn. Clementina Ejabefio, PHF who stood in for the charter president, Rtn. Samuel Adjogbe, and was supported by other Rotarians expressed satisfaction that the club was able to make the presentation, “even at this critical time when Nigeria is passing through series of economic changes.
“On behalf of the Rotary Club of Evwreni and on behalf of our charter president, Rtn. Samuel Adjogbe, we happily present these delivery kits to you to support you during and after your delivery. They are little, but we plead with you to accept them from us with joy and happiness and to also put them to proper use. We promised to do more for you in subsequent times.”
Also speaking at the event, secretary of the club, Rtn. Aloba Paul Akpevwe felicitated with the pregnant women by assuring them of safe delivery. The secretary equally called on the state government and other social organizations to create a social scheme and other palliatives to support pregnant women and nursing mothers with a view to cushioning the effects of motherhood in Africa.
Receiving the delivery kits on behalf of the pregnant women, the chief matron of the Ughelli Central Hospital expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Evwreni over the kind gesture. She equally called on other social organizations and individuals to emulate the acts of generosity by the Rotary Club of Evwreni.
“On behalf of the management of the hospital and these pregnant women present, we expressed our gratitude and appreciations to you for this kind gesture and show of love your club displayed to all these pregnant women today. Even your presence here to share with these pregnant women, singing and dancing together with them is worth millions of naira. You again added to this joy by presenting them delivery kits. If other social clubs in the country can emulate the Rotary Club of Evwreni in this kind of selfless social services to humanity, Nigeria would have been a better country ever since. We want to plead with you to kindly extend our appreciation to your charter president, Rtn. Samuel Adjogbe. God will continue to bless all of you,” she said.
To add to the glamour of the event, the pregnant women that benefited from the social programme of the club began to dance and sing praises of all the Rotarians, counting the numerous social services they have rendered to the needy and the less privileged ones in the society. They later ended their dance presentation with prayers to all the Rotarians.
