Rotary Club Donates Medical Items to Ignatius Ajuru, Botem-Tai Health Centres

As part of activities marking Rotary’s Maternal and Child Health Month, the Rotary Club of PH Eco has paid a visit to the Primary Health Care Centre, Botem, in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, as well as to the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Hospital, Rumuolumeni Campus.

The visits, which took place on April 20 and 27, 2023, saw the club donate drugs, medical supplies to women, children and other community members at the health centre at Botem, Tai and the hospital at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education respectively.

The club, through its Maternal and Child Health Committee, led by Dr Bieye Briggs, were at the Primary Health Care Centre, Botem, Tai on Thursday, April 20, to distribute mosquito nets, antenatal drugs, urinary and glucose test strips, paracetamol, anti-malarial drugs hand gloves, methylated spirit, oral rehydration salt sachets and zinc tablets to pregnant women in the community,

This was after a health talk on family planning, menstrual hygiene and importance of antenatal care was given to the over 57 women present during the visit.

The medical officer of Tai LGS, supervisor for Health, who represented the chairman of the LGA, community women leader, youth leaders and facility head and others were present at the intervention visit.

According to our reporter, the beneficiaries were happy and thanked the Rotary Club of PH Eco for the kind gesture.

On Thursday, April 27, members of the club paid a similar visit to the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Hospital, Rumuolumeni Campus, Port Harcourt, where they gave health talk on acute watery diarrhoea, febrile convulsion and malaria to mothers who brought their children for immunization.

Later, mosquito nets, antenatal drugs, oral rehydration salt sachets, zinc and paracetamol were distributed to over 40 mothers who were present.

Secretary of the club, Rtn Anthony Aalo, who later spoke on behalf of the club and its president, Rtn Davies Okarevu, noted that health is one of the challenges confronting the society.

He said that Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Eco, being concerned with the state of the environment and health, it felt it necessary to contribute to the provision of health care to members of the society, particularly given the economic situation in the country.

“We want to help alleviate the plight of citizens seeking healthcare. Because we know that based on our economy, a lot of people are finding it difficult accessing primary health care,” Aalo said.

He expressed the club’s commitment to contributing its quota to making society a better place to live.
