Rivers PASAN Commends Wike over Payment of Allowances

Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Rivers State chapter have commended the governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, over the release of their 2016, 2017 and 2018 outfit and committee allowances.

Chairman of the state chapter, Comr. Okeleke Louis, in a statement in Port Harcourt, said the governor has proven that he is a trustworthy leader who is true to his words.

“His Excellency, ‘Mr. Project’ has proven that he is also a ‘promise keeper,’ Okeleke said.

PASAN had in November 2017 threatened to down tools, and in the process issued a 14 -day ultimatum to the management of the Assembly to pay the 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 outfit/ committee allowances and other outstanding welfare issues due them.

However, following the intervention of the state councils of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the state government, the strike action was suspended.

“We want to use this medium to thank our listening governor for proving that his words are his bond by ensuring our allowances are paid,” Okeleke said on Tuesday.

The Rivers PASAN chairman also lauded the “Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani, the entire management of the Assembly, The Assembly Service Commission chairman Hon. Chidi Amadi and his team of Commissioners for their concerted effort towards the fulfillment of this promise.

“We commend the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly for facilitating the payment. This noble gesture will no doubt ginger members of our association to continue to give their usual best in the discharge of their official responsibilities.

“We want to assure the governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, as well as the leadership of the State Assembly of our undivided resolve to contribute our quota to the required growth and development of Rivers State,” Okeleke said.
