Subsidy Intervention: Council Vice Chairman Lauds Fubara’s Mass Transit Scheme

The Vice Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro local government area of Rivers State, Amb. Mrs. Angela Inyena Anthony Oju-Kienmie has lauded Governor Siminalayi Fubara for rolling out free transportation scheme for citizens of the state.

Governor Fubara yesterday, rolled out a Mass Transit Bus Scheme to provide free transportation for Rivers residents, to cushion the high cost of living on citizens as a result of the recent fuel subsidy removal.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu at the official flag off of the transport scheme, said the palliative was fulfillment of the promise he made to the people few weeks ago, after assuming office as the State Chief Executive.

Unveiling the 17 Luxury buses that would convey commuters on designated major routes in the state capital and beyond free of charge, the governor charged the operators of the buses to be committed and show due diligence to duties.

He advised the public to see the gesture as a gift and treasure it, noting that the social welfare of the people is of paramount importance to his administration.

Addressing Journalists on the development, the Opobo/Nkoro Council Vice Chairman, Amb. Oju-Kienmie said the free transport scheme will not only cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on the citizens, but will also provide employment for Rivers people.She commended the governor for keeping to his promise of providing palliatives to cushion the high cost of living on the people.

Oju-Kienmie said governor Fubara has proven that he has Rivers people at heart and that he also feels the plight of the people he is governing.

“Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu were voted for continuity and consolidation and they have started excellently well. This is a consolidation project.

“This laudable project will also create employment for the drivers and the conductors that would be engaged. Non-indigenes of the state living and doing business here will also benefit from the palliative. This is a gift from the government we elected. And many more gifts will come your way”, she said.
