Ahead Saturday’s governorship and state Assembly elections, the Mene Bua Boue Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Dr. Taalor Nwidae Tornwe IV, has appealed to the people of Bua Boue and Babbe kingdoms, citizens of Khana Local Government Area and Rivers State, especially the youths to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during and after the polls.
King Tornwe, who made the appeal on Thursday in his palace, urged the youths to ignore any inducement or provocation by any politician, their agents or security agencies on the election day that could lead to violence and disruption of the electoral process.
He urged the people to play by the rules, maintain peaceful dispositions, and vote their conscience at the polls.
King Tornwe noted that violence brings major setback to the society, while electoral violence “stampede on the progress of the nation, promotes apathy and can also lead to death.”
Reacting to the postponement of the governorship and state Assembly elections which was originally slated for Saturday March 11 to March 18, 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the monarch tasked the electoral umpire on conducting a free, fair and credible elections.
He said: “When you get to your polling unit, maintain law and orderliness, vote for the candidates of your choice freely and peacefully, avoid any act that can disrupt the process or cause violence, say no to all forms of violence in the elections, so that we don’t have ourselves to blame.
“Elections will come and go and Boue Kingdom, Babbe Kingdom, Ogoni and our society will remain; so there is no need fighting and killing anybody, because the society will continue.
“I therefore urge each and every one of us, especially the youths to maintain peace and orderliness during and after the elections”.
