By Tina Amanda

Members of the Niger Delta Peoples’ Congress (NDPC) USA have expressed concern over the current spate of political crisis rocking Rivers State.

The group lamented that crisis promotes insurgency, crime, breakdown of law and order, while calling on the warring factions to give peace a chance.

A statement signed on their behalf by their president, Bishop Samson Amajene, said that crisis impedes negatively on the development of any state, adding that such should be vehemently discouraged as well avoided completely.

Amajene said such crisis may lead to insecurity, youth restiveness and reoccurrence of insurgency as well as cause negative social and political impacts to the people of the state, women and children, while reiterating the importance of politicians not allowing personal interest to override the general wellbeing and prosperity of the people of the state, the region and the nation.”

NDPC noted that crisis creates three related threats namely: Public Safety, Economic loss, and the breakdown of law and order.

They however lamented that no investment would thrive in a state where there is political crisis as it discourages investors, thereby escalating the prices of food stuff, with the most affected people being women, who are mangers of homes.

Recounting the experiences and negative impacts of political crises that had rocked the state in the past, the NDPC said the implication of another political crisis will be too grievous for the state to bear.

They urged the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, elder statesmen, and elites in the state to prevail on the political actors involved in the recent crisis to sheathe their swords.
