The crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to worsen as two factions of the party engage in the sale of nomination forms to candidates for the 2019 elections.

Briefing journalists on the progress of the sale of nomination forms, the state publicity secretary of the party, Chris Finebone said the party has sold more than 50 nomination forms to candidates of the party seeking to fly the flag of the party in the 2019 election.

He maintained that the Ojukaye Flag-Amachere-led faction is the authentic APC in the state adding that as of Wednesday, “a total of 51 aspirants have bought forms to contest the 2019 House of Assembly election on the platform of our party APC in Rivers State.”

However Peter Odike, referred to as the acting chairman of the APC faction sympathetic to Sen. Magnus Abe, insists that his faction is recognised by the national secretariat of the party.

He also said the party has been selling forms, adding that members have been purchasing forms on the platform of the group.

Meanwhile, the senator representing the Rivers South East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, has reaffirmed that the APC would use the direct primaries method to choose its candidates.

Speaking at an event in Bonny Local Government of Rivers State, Abe said that APC must allow party faithful to choose who their candidates should be in the primaries.

He stated: “we will have direct primaries, people should come out in their numbers, the way they have turned out today and support who they want to support. They should be given that opportunity.”

He also promised to ensure that the Federal Government completes the Bodo-Bonny road adding that, “sometimes when people see my passion about the Bodo-Bonny road, they assume that it is because it is coming from my place Gokana, that is why am so passionate about it.

“I am passionate about it because of Nigeria, because of Bonny, because I know it will bring prosperity to this entire coastal area of our state. It will open opportunities for tourism, it will develop the beaches around here and it will help commerce and economy of every city or community around here,” he said.
