The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) has announced the suspension of all political appointees, and office holders in the state.
The Administrator, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt Wednesday and signed by his unnamed Chief of Staff, said the suspensions are with immediate effect.
Ibas, in the statement said the decision was made under the powers granted to him as the Sole Administrator of the state by President Bola Tinubu.
Those affected by the suspension are; the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, all commissioners, chairpersons and members of boards, agencies, commissions, and parastatals, as well as all special advisers, special assistants, and senior special assistants in the state.
Ibas however, directed all affected officers are to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their MDAs, and or to the most senior director/head of administration where there may be no permanent secretary.
Similarly, the Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, had also directed all Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGA) across the 23 local government local government to submit the report of their Councils to the office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs.
Vice Admiral Ibas, in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Itong Awani, also directed that the reports must contain the functions of the council, the number of Staff on nominal roll, and also state cadre by cadre, sources of revenue generation in the Local Government Area, activities of the Council/on-going and completed projects for the past 2 years, among other things.
Recalled that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) was appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 by President Bola Tinubu after the President declared a state of emergency in the State and also suspended the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
meanwhile, the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) has sworn-in the new Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Worika, and charged him to bring his wealth of experience to the government.
