Prosperity Cup: Krusaders Feeders FC, Nembe City FC, Movers FC Qualify for Round of 16

Defending champions, Krusaders Feeders FC, Afini FC, Anyama FC, Petroleum Boys FC, Rose of Sharon FC, Ogboinbiri FC, Nembe City FC and Kongho FC have qualified to the round of 16 of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football spectacle, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity Cup.

Krusaders Feeders FC whitewashed Creek FC 6-1 in a game decided at the Ebedebiri center. A brace from Surveyor Handsome on 9 and 29 minutes and another brace from Tony Akpara on 15 and 51 minutes as well as a goal from Moses Anthony and Lawyer Bobraye gave the Peretrogbene based side the deserved victory. 

Petroleum Boys FC in the second game at the Ebedebiri center pummeled Odi United 5-0 to progress to the round of 16 of the tournament. Solohit Akpokabowei, Jeremiah Ebiye and Moses Aseyeibo were on the scoresheet for the Ekeremor side.

Kongho FC at the Nembe City stadium beat Ambassador FC 2-1 to book qualification into the last sixteen. Prince Nackson’s first half brace on 19 and 28 minutes and Amassomor Joseph’s consolation goal was all Kongho FC needed to progress to the round of sixteen.

Rose of Sharon FC caused the biggest upset in the round of 32 to shock Yenagoa LGA champions, Bayelsa Medical University, BMU FC 10-9 on penalties after a barren draw in regulation time at the Bishop Dimeari Grammar School, BDGS center.

Earlier at the BDGS center, Anyama FC spanked Divine Grace FC 4-2 to secure a smooth passage into the next round. Brandy Ataria put Anyama FC ahead but Divine Grace FC replied a few minutes later from Owaer Singesi’s finish, Ogbolo Dogood put Divine Grace FC in front on 38 minutes to silence Anyama FC fans.

Godgift Agala and Vincent Azibapu on resumption from the second half responded in an exhilarating fashion with Godgift Agala netting a brace for the Anyama FC to confirm their supremacy despite being behind in the first half of the game.

Elsewhere at the Amassoma center, Southern Ijaw champions Ogboinbiri FC zoomed into the round of 16 with a 4-2 victory on penalties over Gbarain Selected Stars after a one all draw in regulation time.

Afini FC at the Otuasega township stadium pipped Fisherman Son’s FC 1-0 in a cagey game. Binalayefa Godswill’s own goal on 12 minute defined the tie for both sides. 

Nembe City FC at the Otuasega township stadium humbled New Evangel FC 3-1 to qualify for the round of 16 of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament.

In a related development, the female version of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity tournament has commenced in different centers across in the state. 

Peremo Soccer Academy battered helpless and hapless God’s Promise Queens FC 17-0 at the Kaiama center. Blessing Anderson’s double hat trick on 2, 21, 54, 6, 67, 86 minutes and Gita Angela’s hat trick and a brace was the highlight of the fixture.

In the other fixture, Niger Delta Queens of Odi humiliated Otuokpoti Queens 10-0 to progress to the next round of the competition while Stardom Life Academy beat Boro Queens 1-0 to secure qualification at the Obunagha center 

More round of 32 games and the women’s fixtures will return on Monday in the tournament at the designated centers across the length and breadth of the state.

Also, Movers FC of Otuasega, Bayelsa United Feeders FC, Agbere FC, Samba Boys, Solid Star FC, Wodu FC, Police Machine FC and Adulama FC have progressed to the round of sixteen of the Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football showpiece, the Prosperity Cup.

Ogbia champions, Movers FC of Otuasega triumphed 2-0 over Kurotee FC in an encounter decided at the Nembe City stadium. A goal in each half from Elton Olalimorem on 38 and 89 minutes put the Otuasega side into the round of sixteen.

Bayelsa United Feeders FC at the Kaiama Grammar School center beat Mezeh FC 2-1 to qualify into the round of 16, Bethel Lucky’s brace on 24 and 30 minutes proved decisive for the Feeders side. Agbere FC of Sagbama also booked a place in the round of sixteen with a slim 1-0 victory over Mountain of the Lord Deliverance Ministry M.L.D.M FC.

Wodu FC at the Bishop Dimeari Grammar School, BDGS center pipped Northern Strikers FC 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time while Solid Stars FC defeated NYSC FC 4-2 on penalties having played out a barren draw in normal time.

Elsewhere, Water Strikers FC failed to strike as Police Machine overpowered the Brass based team 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time at the Nembe City stadium, Nembe to progress to the round of sixteen of the spectacle.

Samba Boys of Okutukutu at the Samson Siasia Stadium hammered Teammates FC 4-1 to seal a round of sixteen place in the tournament while Adulama FC edged out coach Willson Mumeya’s Akenfa FC 1-0. Oghenevirohwome Lucky’s 17th minute goal was all the Southern Ijaw side needed to qualify to the last sixteen.

In the meantime, hostilities will return Tuesday, 9th of July, 2024 in their respective centers in the women’s version of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament christened the Prosperity Cup.

Defending champions, Golden Sun Sports Club will begin their title defence against Kolga Babes by 3pm at the Samson Siasia Stadium while Reward Queens will square off with Niger Delta Queens at the Kpanisa Field at 3.30pm.
