Customs Promotions: ACG Zone C Commends CG, Tasks Officers on Hard Work

Coordinator of Zone C Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, ACG Festus Okun, has commended the Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (rtd), and his management team, for approving the promotion of officers and men of the service.

ACG Okun, who was also promoted, described the exercise as an opportunity for the officers to showcase their capacity and prove their mettle to deliver in their responsibilities.

While thanking God for using the comptroller general and other members of the management team to actualize the promotion, Okun commended his team whose efforts and feats he said had contributed in making the promotion possible.

The ACG, while congratulating officers and men in the zone who were promoted, however charged them to ensure that the core mandates of the service, which include revenue generation, national security and suppression of smuggling activities are not compromised.

He stressed that with the promotion comes more responsibilities, as according to him they should be able to take responsibility for every action taken in the course of carrying out their duties.

ACG Okun who is a “revenue czar,” especially when he held sway as deputy comptroller in charge of revenue at the Tin Can Inland Ports, and comptroller, PTML Command, noted that the revenue drive of the both commands were not compromised and enjoined the officers in the zone to emulate the feat.

He used the opportunity to advise the Customs agents and other stakeholders to raise their level of compliance and integrity while carrying out their business with the service, adding that this will make the job of the Customs officers easier and will translate to quality service.       

In the area of compensation and welfare package for dependents of officers who lost their lives in course of their job, Okun said the Customs is doing a lot to ensure that no officer dies in vain in the course of carrying out his or her duties, as adequate compensations are paid to their dependents as well as other welfare packages such as accommodation, medical facilities and insurance packages are provided for officers and men of the service by the Col. Hameed Ali management team.
