Poll Shift: Monumental Disgrace to Nigerians, International Community ~ Miriki

By Amos Odeh, Yenagoa

Last Saturday’s postponement of the election has been described as a monumental disgrace and embarrassment not to only Nigeria, but to the international community considering the inconveniences and economic loss to individuals and corporate organizations.

Senior special assistant to the Bayelsa State governor on Political Matters, Hon Ebikibena Miriki stated this while speaking to journalists.

He said that, as a former opposition member, the present government by People Democratic Party has achieved a lot in terms of achievements and deserved commendation and not condemnation by the opposition, APC.

“What is expected from former governor, (Timipre) Sylva and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri is to support and encourage Governor Seriake Dickson, notably on the airport, three senatorial roads. Recall that large sum of money was spent on just site clearing of airport, but nothing was achieved.”

He posited that the postponement of the elections will not cause voters apathy, but will encourage the party to apologise to their supporters to vote in a party that has been committed to the development and good governance .” this is a government that had constructed an airport that a previous government awarded contract for site clearing but did not see the light of the day, but Dickson had performed this feat, what of in area of other infrastructure, three senatorial roads , the people will still turn out en mass to vote only PDP.”

On whether he had betrayed his followers by joining PDP, he said he was convinced by the vision and mission of the present governor as someone that does not play politics with development of the state and while he was on the other side he proffered constructive criticisms which the present opposition of APC lacks, instead of Sylva and Heineken Lokpobiri to commend him, they resort to condemnation which is not fair.

On whether Bayelsans and Nigerians will vote for Buhari, he said emphatically no as Nigerians see former vice president Atiku Abubakar as the only person that will salvage Nigeria. “Buhari is not in charge, but a cabal as revealed by his wife.

“Atiku has a road map that will take Nigeria from retrogression to progress and I encourage every progressive Nigerians to cast their vote for him and other PDP candidates for National Assembly, state and governorship elections.

“My advice to Bayelsa is to come out en mass and vote according to their conscience and resist every form of intimidation and ballot snatching, and shame those who use other people children as political thugs while their children have been taken outside the country.

“The era of stockpiling arms, intimidation, violence and thuggery is over as what was expected was robust and vigorous campaigns which the PDP did and the other parties failed to this, hence what they should expect is monumental and abysmal failure at the polls,” he said.
