Police kill 6 kidnappers, arrest over 11 crime suspects In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command said it has killed six suspected kidnappers and cultists terrorizing Obelle Community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state and the Emohua section of the East West road.

The State Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi while briefing Journalists on Friday said operatives of the command also arrested over eleven suspects for various crimes, including cultism, stealing and kidnapping activities in different parts of the State.

CP Emeka said hoodlums were killed in a gun duel with operatives of the Anti-cultism and tactical units of the police who stormed a hideout of a criminal gang led by one Uchechukwu Daniel.

“Sequel to the criminal activities of a gang of wanted criminals terrorizing the East-West Road axis in Emohua LGA, operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit, in conjunction with other Tactical Teams, invaded the hideout of one Uchechukwu Daniel Okanaa.k.aHunhman at Obele in Emohua LGA. 

“On sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums in their numbers opened fire on them. A quick response by the operatives neutralized and dislodged the miscreants as they scampered for safety and bowed to superior fire-power (Six neutralized, Six arrested). 

The Police Commissioner also revealed that operatives of Anti-Cultism Unit, Bori Annex, on Tuesday 5 July 2023, while on patrol at Yokuru in Khana LGA arrested one Baridara Baridam aka Ojukwu, a notorious kingpin who has been on the police wanted list. 

Ojukwu, he said, confessed to be a member of a three man gang terrorizing Ogoni communities as well as the East West road. He noted that his gang members, Mali and Lekia were being trailed. While two AK 47 riffles, and a human skull were said to be recovered from the suspect.

Furthermore, the CP said his men on patrol, Friday 30th June 2023,

along King Perekule junction GRA, Port Harcourt intercepted and rescued a kidnap victim, who narrated how a friend was abducted by the hoodlums.

He said, operatives of the command, acting on credible information on Thursday 6th July 2023, trailed kidnappers to their hideout at Ozuaha community in Ikwerre LGA of the state where some victims were rescued unhurt while one suspect, Mr. Buchi David was arrested.

He said exhibits recovered from the hoodlums include; one locally fabricated arm, cut to size guns, six cartridges.

Similarly, CP Emeka revealed that Special Area Division at Rumuodumaya in collaboration with local vigilance group on June 20, 2023, raided criminal hideout in the area in Obio/Akpor LGA, and arrested suspects (males and females) between the ages of 15 to 28 years and recovered different hard drugs.

The Police Chief added that several items including, 3 PMF uniforms, Army cap, locally fabricated pistol, live cartridges, pistol, a bag, 1 iphone, techno phone among others were recovered in different operations in the state, including Bonny LGA.
