The Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has described the Police as one of the most difficult and challenging professions in the world, insisting that most times what happens at work is not what was taught in the training college or any conventional institution.
The state Police boss lamented that the challenges police officers encounter in the course of their duty are often very tasking and tenuous, to the extent that most police officers hardly have time with family members or close relatives; and despite such conditions, they are continually assailed by constant scathing criticism from most members of the public who do not understand the workings of the Police and challenges of policing.
CP Disu spoke at the Maga Happy Hour/64th Independence Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, a programme organized by Honorary Members of the Police Officers Mess, Rivers State Command.
The Police boss observed that most times police personnel face lots of disconcerting situations in line of duty, citing several cases in Rivers State where, on a daily basis, people go to the courts to obtain various kinds of court injunctions and counter injunctions, which pose operational complications, making the job of the police more difficult and more so for any personnel to excape criticism, especially, where and when the case doesn’t turn out in favour of some individuals or parties.
The CP also used the opportunity to laud some senior officers, organizers of the event, personnel of the sister-agencies, guests and inductees for their presence, co-operation, convivial relationship and support, even as he further commended members of the PMC for their role in ensuring that officers and members of the public have a good time to refresh and interact together as Nigeria celebrates her 64th Independence Anniversary.
Earlier in his address, the President, Mess Committee (PMC), Engr. Onengiyeofori Hector Fenibo, said that, in order for Rivers Police Officers Mess family to come out stronger, happier and more united, eight more members were inducted into the Golden Membership Class, while 27 new members were also inducted as Honorary Members of the Mess. The occasion also witnessed the formal launching of the funds for the reconstruction and renovation of the Mess Secretariat/Complex.
The PMC president equally used the opportunity to praise CP Disu for his doggedness, foresight and resilience in ensuring there is adequate security, public safety and peace in Rivers State.
“To the glory of God, you have proven beyond doubt your capacity to turn around a troubled environment into a peaceful and happy society.”
The event witnessed the presentation of awards, decoration and presentation of gift items to some police divisions in the state.
