Prominent Kalabari chief and paramount head, Boko Group of Houses, Idama/Ekulama Community in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Sir Chief Kuku Goddey Monday, recently exchanged marital vow with Ibiso Black Duke at St. Mathias African Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
The wedding, which attracted crème de-la-creme of the society, was described by eminent guests as the wedding of the century.
Provost, St. Mathias African Church, Ven. Uwem U. Udo, enjoined the couple to be faithful to each other for a fruitful and peaceful union, noting that tolerance is key to a solid marriage.
He charged them to display high level obedience and cling to each other to become one flesh, while advising the couple to exhibit openness, transparency and intimacy, devoid of malice and bickering.
The marriage train later moved to the residence of the bridegroom for the traditional ‘Bibife’ marriage rites as part of Kalabari customs and tradition.
Royalty and splendor adorned the event, especially with the arrival of three royal fathers, the Amanyanabo of Idama/Ekulama Community and other satellite villages; King Karibo Kariboye, Okio III, Teinya I; King Damiete Seki Dokubo Egwere, Ewelle VII, Amanyanabo of Ido and the Amanyanabo of Oproama and its satellite communities, HRH, Barr. (Surveyor) Tubotamuno Asifamabia Dick Jaw III, Opolobia IV, also added colour to the event.
The Oproama monarch expressed joy, describing Chief Kuku as a man of the people. He said that the union marks a new chapter in the chief’s life, having endured for eight years as a widower, while praying Almighty God to guide and protect the marriage.
Alabo Suoboma Nicolas Asimea described the marriage as epochal and grand in all ramifications, adding that the holy Bible “makes us understand that till death does us apart, we should cling to each other.
“Today Chief Kuku has renewed himself, has taken a wife to complement whatever he is doing in life. I am impressed and I pray for the couple good health and solid relationship.”
Kingsley Kuku, first son of Chief Kuku, who was overwhelmed with joy said the family is happy over the union of their father and his lovely wife, adding that after losing their mother eight years ago, time is ripe for their father to settle down.
“I and my siblings are happy about the relationship and we wholeheartedly support our father”, he assured.
The bridegroom, Chief Kuku thanked God for His mercies and commended all the guests that came in their numbers to identify with him.
He promised to cherish the marriage, praying that the good Lord will strengthen their bond and pave way for a successful union.
“We are united in faith and grateful to God for giving us a unique opportunity to settle down as husband and wife.”
Notable personalities spoke highly of the union and advised the couple to show total commitment to each other.
